rufus, the tired god

Hubby and I just went to see Rufus Wainwright play at the Meyerson Symphony Hall in Dallas and it was the sight Meyerson won’t be forgetting any time soon!

Some of the Rufus fans (Rufettes?) have christened this picture ‘Rufus, The Tired God‘ and I find myself quietly agreeing with them. Rufus Apollo routine, which took place during the show’s encore, was exactly the kind of fresh air the stagnant institution like Meyerson desperately needed an injection of. Although, I must admit, a few Texas-sized eyebrows were raised.

We had seats in Section B row AA and I am definitely not complaining about the view I’ve had. Rufus is a pleasure to photograph.

I’ve seen many concerts in my life, from Rage Against The Machine to the performance of Mozart’s ‘Requiem’, but most of them fall short of what I was fortunate to see at the Meyerson.

Another point that earns my absolute respect and devotion is his unwavering honesty about who he is. Any man brave enough to stand up in front of a room full of Texans and speak his mind, clearly and without mixing his words, is a bigger man than some of the ones I’ve met.

It really is a damn shame that Mr. Wainwright is unlikely to come back to TX again, we certainly need him here.

I guess it’s a good thing that I am accustomed to traveling for music.
